About Dr. Charles Lawrie, MD, MSc

Hi, I’m Charles Lawrie — an orthopedic surgeon based in Miami, Florida, where I focus on helping people move better with anterior hip replacementrobotic total knee replacement, and robotic partial knee replacement.

Most days, I’m in the operating room using advanced technology to make joint replacement less invasive, more precise, and easier to recover from. I created this site to share what I’ve learned (and what I’m still learning) about how techniques like roboticsfunctional alignment, and bone preservation are changing the game for hip and knee surgery — especially for active patients in South Florida.

You won’t find appointment links or clinic phone numbers here — this blog is strictly for education. But if you’re someone researching hip or knee replacement in Miami-Dade or Broward County — from Coral Gables to Fort Lauderdale — you’re in the right place. I write with you in mind.

I’m also the President of the Anterior Hip Foundation (2025–2026) and serve as Chief Medical Officer at Fios Health, where we build AI-powered tools for orthopedic practices. My research has been recognized with awards like the RAND Young Investigator Award and the Mark Coventry Award, and published on topics like robotic knee alignmentanterior hip biomechanics, and minimally invasive surgical technique.

If you’re looking for straightforward answers about hip or knee replacement, curious about robotic surgery, or wondering whether hip resurfacing might be right for you — grab a cup of coffee and explore. I hope this site helps you feel more informed, more confident, and more in control of your care.

What you’ll find on this site:

  • Patient guides for anterior hip and robotic knee replacement
  • Realistic recovery timelines and pre-op tips
  • Explainers on robotic total vs partial knee surgery
  • Information on hip resurfacing for active patients
  • Articles on robotic surgeryimplant design, and functional alignment

💡 Pushing the Field Forward: Innovation in Joint Replacement

I’m not just a surgeon — I’m also deeply involved in shaping the future of joint replacement. I’ve had the opportunity to contribute to the design of hip and knee replacement implants that are now used in operating rooms around the world, including systems tailored for anterior hip replacement and robotic total and partial knee replacement.

I also work closely with industry and engineering teams to help develop robotic surgery platforms and software toolsthat improve surgical precision, enhance patient outcomes, and streamline workflow for orthopedic practices.

Innovation isn’t just about new tools — it’s about building smarter, safer, and more personalized ways to help patients move better. That’s what drives me.
